Meet Kermit the Frog’s evil doppleganger in the new poster for Muppets Most Wanted

JoBloJoBlo

After Jason Segel‘s revival of The Muppets a couple of years ago we have been awaiting the sequel to see if it can live up to the musical magic of James Bobin‘s first film. With Segel and Amy Adams not returning for MUPPETS MOST WANTED, it falls to a new group of stars to keep the franchise going. You could do worse than Tina Fey, Ty Burrell, and Ricky Gervais, especially when you still have Bret McKenzie on song duty.

When the initial teaser for MUPPETS MOST WANTED landed, we were treated to a slew of images and hints of a plot more than reminiscent of Pixar’s CARS 2 where Kermit has been confused with an international thief. With this new poster we get a look at Kermit’s doppleganger, the dangerous and elusive Constantine.

While on a grand world tour, the Muppets find themselves wrapped into an European jewel-heist caper headed by a Kermit lookalike and his dastardly sidekick.

I loved THE MUPPETS and I will definitely be taking my kids to see MUPPETS MOST WANTED, but I get a weird STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS vibe off of this movie. THE MUPPETS copied the road movie format of THE MUPPET MOVIE and now MUPPETS MOST WANTED seems to be copying THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER. While I am sure I will laugh and enjoy this entry, I just hope it doesn’t suffer without Segel, Adams, or Chris Cooper.

MUPPETS MOST WANTED, starring Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, Christoph Waltz, Ray Liotta, Tom Hiddleston, Ty Burrell, Frank Langella, Danny Trejo, Ross Lynch, Debbie Ryan, and a whole lot of fuzzy muppets hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
