You merely have to say the phrase “Meryl Streep playing a historical figure” and you’ve automatically secured her one of the five Best Actress nominee spots at this year’s Oscars. And if she has to do a funny voice? That’s at least a 50/50 shot right there.

I kid, I kid, I’m sure that her performance in THE IRON LADY will be more than worthy of such an honor, and it would be nice if the film it was attached to was good as well. Streep will be playing Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher, who rose to power among throngs of men telling her she couldn’t do it.

You know, it would be kind of awesome if it ended up being Streep as Thatcher going up against Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander for the Best Actress statue. You probably could not think of two more opposite people on the planet.
