Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard feign royalty in these Macbeth images

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since we’ve seen the first images from Justin Kurzel‘s MACBETH, but the film looks to premiere at Cannes film festival, so hopefully we’ll hear about a theatrical release date shortly after. In any event, if you’re not fluent with the Shakespeare material, the story follows that of Macbeth (Michael Fassbender), a duke of Scotland, who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife (Marion Cotillard), Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself, with some dire consequences. You can check out the latest pictures of our leads below.

The first thing to note of these images from Justin Kurzel‘s film is that they exist in a “lived-in universe.” Nothing looks pristine and shiny as they usually do in films, and that’s a good thing! Evidently Fassbender enjoyed his working relationship on this film, as he chose Kurzel to direct and Marion Cotillard to also star in his ASSASSIN’S CREED movie. I’m hoping that bodes well for this flick. Now just give us a damn release, already!

MACBETH will premiere sometime in 2015.
