Michael Fassbender the latest name tied to Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs movie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I wonder if it is an insult or an honor to be the third choice for a role after Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale pass on it? That determination may come into play in whether Michael Fassbender takes the lead in Danny Boyle‘s biopic of Steve Jobs. Deadline is reporting that Fassbender is the latest name linked to the project and may be able to fit the role in before he needs to get underway on X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

Michael Fassbender has quickly built a reputation for himself as a top tier actor with roles in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, 12 YEARS A SLAVE, PROMETHEUS, SHAME, and the two most recent X-MEN films. His dramatic turns with director Steve McQueen have shown he is an actor to be reckoned with and taking such a visible role as Steve Jobs would definitely have the potential for awards consideration.

Aaron Sorkin‘s screenplay is based on the Walter Isaacson biography that was officially sanctioned by Jobs himself. It is said the film is centered around three major keynote speeches that the Apple founder gave in his life. Leonardo DiCaprio was attached when Danny Boyle came on as director but left due to obligations on THE REVENANT. Christian Bale was David Fincher‘s first choice and came on the project for just under two weeks before realizing he wasn’t right for the part.

Sony is said to be aiming for a shoot this winter so a decision needs to be made soon. Bale leaving just this week has thrown a wrench into the mix, but hopefully the Fassbender rumors turn out to be true as he would definitely be worth seeing in the part.
