As Michael Giacchino has composed the score for all of Matt Reeves' movies over the past decade, including CLOVERFIELD, LET ME IN, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, was there ever any doubt that he would return for THE BATMAN as well?

During an event at London's Royal Albert Hall, Matt Reeves made a surprise appearance and took to the stage to in order to pop a very important question. Getting down on one knee, Reeves asked Giacchino to compose the score for THE BATMAN. Happily, Giacchino agreed. The composer is no stranger to the realm of superhero movies, having composed the scores for THE INCREDIBLES, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, and he's also set to score the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS as well. Over the decades, we've had memorable Batman-related scores composed by Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, and Junkie XL, so Michael Giacchino certainly has his work cut out for him.

THE BATMAN is set to star Robert Pattinson (THE LIGHTHOUSE) as the Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Catwoman, Paul Dano (SWISS ARMY MAN) as The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) has been in talks to play Commissioner Gordon. There's no official start date just yet, but production on THE BATMAN could begin either later this year or early 2020. We still don't know all that much about THE BATMAN at this stage, but Matt Reeves has teased that it will finally do justice to Batman's reputation of the World's Greatest Detective.

It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.

THE BATMAN will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
