The cool news regarding Assault on Rio Bravo, an action-packed "Western with strong Horror elements" from director Joe Cornet (A Prayer for the Damned), just keeps on coming!  We've previously reported that Alexander Nevsky (Maximum Impact) and Matthias Hues of I Come in Peace fame will be starring in the film, and now it has been announced that they're being joined in the cast by acting legend  Michael Paré (Streets of Fire, The Shelter) and action star Olivier Gruner (Nemesis, Angel Town)!

It's said that Assault on Rio Bravo will feature non-stop action (we're all for that); so famous fight choreographer and stunt coordinator Art Camacho (Half Past Dead) has signed on to bring that action to the screen.

Written by Craig Hamann (Showdown in Manila), Assault on Rio Bravo tells the following story:

A bloodthirsty gang of outlaws is on the eve of attacking a border town to free their leader from prison. They’re an army of ruthless killers known as the most dangerous gang in the West. Their plan is to burn the entire town to the ground with everyone who in it. But a handle of warriors led by a mysterious foreigner will stand in their way.

Hamann's script was inspired by true events and the life of an actual historical figure, Ivan Turchaninov. Turchaninov was a colonel in the Russian Imperial Guards who immigrated to America in 1856 and went on to become a Union army brigade general – making him the only Russian hero of the American Civil War.

Nevsky is producing Assault on Rio Bravo through his Hollywood Storm production shingle. Sean Murray (Deep Blue Sea 2) serves as co-producer and will also be composing the film's score. The film is being executive produced by Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart).  Casting is currently underway in Los Angeles.

While we wait for Assault on Rio Bravo, another Joe Cornet Western is set to be released through Amazon Prime Video on April 6th. That film is titled Promise, and Cornet directed, produced, and starred in it alongside Academy Award nominee Don Murray.
