Director Mike Flanagan’s seven episode mini-series Midnight Mass is scheduled to be released globally through the Netflix streaming service on September 24th, and with just a few weeks left to go before that date arrives Netflix has released a new poster for the show online. Along with the unveiling of the poster, which can be seen below, comes the promise that a full trailer for Midnight Mass will be released next week. The teaser trailer is embedded above.

Midnight Mass tells the tale of

a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?

Gilford and Linklater are joined in the cast by Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Annabeth Gish, Robert Longstreet, Alex Essoe, Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Rahul Kohli, Kristin Lehman, Igby Rigney, and Annarah Cymone.

Essoe has said that “in a nutshell”, the show is like

Salem’s Lot meets The Perfect Storm. A sleepy little island community of staunch Catholics, and their belief is their undoing. I’ll put it that way. I won’t say anything about what character I’m playing because it’s such a great surprise. I can’t really go on about that one…If I do it right, you won’t know it’s me.”

Flanagan executive produced the series with Trevor Macy. Flanagan previously worked with Netflix on The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Gerald’s Game.

I’m a big fan of Flanagan’s work and especially loved The Haunting of Hill House,  so I’m really looking forward to Midnight Mass.
