Which of Mikael Hafstrom’s movies do you like best? Is it DERAILED? 1408? THE RITE? Perhaps it’s one of his earlier Swedish films like DROWNING GHOST?
Either way, the dude is taking his talents to Hammer Films.
Per a short Deadline article, Hafstrom is set to direct WAKE for the studio, a “modern day Jekyll and Hyde who knows no bounds.” The script was originally penned by Christopher Borrelli (THE VICTORIAN TAPES, THE MARINE 2), but has since been retooled by Matt Sand (NINJA ASSASSIN, DEEPWATER HORIZON).
No other details have been given for WAKE, but it seems Hammer Films is pretty serious about their revamped genre slate. The similarly titled WAKE WOOD tickled E.Dubb’s fancy well enough, and the remake of THE WOMAN IN BLACK looks like a solid outing from the famed English studio. Hopefully Hafstrom lends a little more of his 1408 panache to WAKE than the inertia of THE RITE.
More on WAKE as we dig it up…
