Doctor Sleep’s Mike Flanagan has a pitch for a new Nightmare on Elm Street

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this week we passed along word that Wes Craven's supernatural slasher A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET starring Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger would not be falling under the same legal hell as Sean S. Cunningham and Victor Miller's FRIDAY THE 13TH as Craven's estate successfully snagged back the rights to his 1984 masterpiece and has begun actively taking pitches for a new Freddy flick and a possible HBO Max series.

And today DOCTOR SLEEP and THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE director Mike Flanagan took to Twitter to let us all know he has a pitch!

He tweets:

Put me in, coach… I’ve got a pitch!

Now I don't know about you but Flanagan would be one of my top choices to take over the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise. Let's just hope Craven's estate hears his sure-to-be killer pitch and gives the man the job. We'll keep our fingers crossed and pass along further word if we hear anything.

For those of you that somehow might not know by this point in your life, in Wes Craven's classic slasher film:

Several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams — which, in turn, kills them in reality. After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late?

Wes Craven wrote and directed A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET while Robert Shaye produced. Along with Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, the flick featured John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, and Johnny Depp. New Line Cinema unleashed the dream demon into theaters near your parents back on November 9, 1984. If you don't already own the film on Blu-ray (yeah, right) you can snag it HERE.
