Just last week we heard the news that Guillermo del Toro’s 1997 monster mash MIMIC is on its way to Blu-ray this September; great news for big fans of the flick. Well, the news has just gotten better, as new details have been revealed, the biggest being that the release will include del Toro’s Director’s Cut of the film!

If you’ve been following the man’s career, you know that Dimension (and those Weinstein boys) fiddled with MIMIC the way they do with every movie they come across. Now his vision, or the closest we’ll ever get to it, for the movie will finally be revealed.

According to The HD Room, del Toro has added back in 7 minutes of previously cut footage that “introduce subtle character moments” to what is now being referred to as the “Director’s Cut.” Or as Lionsgate is putting it, the “definitive version” of the movie.

This is in addition to the stellar supplements already announced, including:
Video Prologue with director Guillermo del Toro
Audio commentary with director/co-writer Guillermo Del Toro
“Reclaiming Mimic” featurette
“A Leap In Evolution – The Creatures of Mimic” featurette
“Back Into The Tunnels – Shooting Mimic” featurette
Deleted scenes
Storyboard animatics
Gag reel
Theatrical Trailer

The Blu-ray hits shelves on SEPTEMBER 27th, so just enough time to get you prepped for the Halloween season. (Unfortunately you can’t pre-order it just yet, but that time should come soon…)
