As Paramount and Allspark pictures continue to completely retool their film version of the character Snake Eyes for his own movie, they’re now going all-in for casting big-name G.I. Joe characters, with MONEY HEIST actress Úrsula Corberó cast as the villain Baroness. The Wrap got the scoop about Corberó joining the cast, with her taking on the role that once belonged to Sienna Miller in G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA.

There's no word yet on how she will factor into the story, but the deadly character is an intelligence officer in the Cobra organization and a top official alongside Cobra Commander, so she could easily be doing some serious tormenting of our ninja protagonist. She will be joining the already established cast of Henry Golding as the titular Snake Eyes and Andrew Koji as his rival and brother, Storm Shadow.

As was the case with their latest movie in the Transformers universe, BUMBLEBEE, the studios seem to be looking to their beloved side characters as ways of rebooting their movie franchises after years of working with other sequels. While BUMBLEBEE was far from the hit the other TRANSFORMERS movies were, it was a critical darling that set up a solid foundation for more movies. SNAKE EYES may have a steeper hill to climb, as the G.I. JOE movies, while decent money earners, didn’t have quite the following as Michael Bay’s robot-smashing movies.

Corberó may not be a name most Western audiences recognize, but she's earned raves for her work in LA CASA DE PAPEL, which in America goes by the name of MONEY HEIST, which airs on Netflix. With such an international hit under her belt the big movie contracts were going to come eventually, and taking on a role like Baroness will be a huge opportunity for her to become a household name.
