Hollywood Reporter checks in with news that Buena Vista will be having some competition in the 3D films this October. According to the article, Sony Pictures is set to re-release this past summer’s MONSTER HOUSE for a two week stint in 3D, starting October 6. The plan is it have the film on over 100 screens in preparation for the film’s DVD release on October 24th.
“Now we get the opportunity to see ‘MONSTER’ in 3D in the theater to remind people what a good movie it is before the DVD comes out,” says Rory Bruer, Sony’s president of distribution. The competition will be in terms of revenue, however, as THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS hits theatres October 20, which by that time Sony will have pulled MONSTER HOUSE from theatres. Of course, the thing that would make this Halloween complete in terms of the 3D experience would be for Paramount to release FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3.
But of course, we all know there’s a fat chance of that happening.
