Heavy Metal Studios, Daniel Powell of Irony Point, and Rick and Morty animation studio Bardel Entertainment are teaming up to bring us an animated TV series adaptation of Dan Fogler‘s graphic novel series Moon Lake. Episodes of the series will run for thirty minutes and will be hosted by

the Man in the Moon, a farcical character reminiscent of TV anthology hosts of the past, like Rod Serling and Alfred Hitchcock. Held captive by “moon-men” since childhood, The Man prevents these aliens from attacking Earth by keeping them endlessly entertained with shocking tales of gruesome horror and hilarity. Each episode follows a different deranged set of characters in a strange new setting; whether it be following a ghost-whispering cave-woman on prehistoric Earth, a murderous cheerleader at a modern-day high school, or fighters in a bizarre alien war in space.

The Deadline write-up promises that every story told on the show will “play into campy classic monster, horror, and sci-fi tropes in a hilarious way”.

Fogler had this to say about the project:

I am over the moon, pun totally intended, to be adapting my graphic novel series, Moon Lake, with Heavy Metal, Daniel Powell, and Bardel Entertainment. It’s a dream collaboration. We promise to make you laugh and freak you out well into the afterlife, with the finest voice talent in the business.”

This is my first time hearing about Moon Lake (you can buy an omnibus of the graphic novels HERE), but it sounds like fun and I am a fan of Fogler’s acting work, so I’ll be interested in checking this show out.

Fogler has over 60 acting credits to his name, including roles on the TV shows The Walking Dead, Hannibal, and The Goldbergs, as well as the films Balls of Fury, Fanboys, Don Peyote (which he also wrote and directed with Michael Canzoniero), and the Fantastic Beasts series.

Fogler and Powell will be executive producing Moon Lake alongside Tommy Coriale and Matthew Medney of Heavy Metal Studios, and Bardel Entertainment’s Tina Chow and Richard Grieve.
