Clive Barker’s BOOKS OF BLOOD series continues to spill new tales for the big screen. First there was the highly controversial (release-date-wise) MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN. Then came the news that DREAD was coming. Now we have the word on not one, but two brand new adaptations attempting to creep from page to screen.
First off, we have PIG BLOOD BLUES which oinks one wacked-out yarn about a haunted swine? I don’t know, check out the full synopsis and see for yourself: A supernatural story set in a borstal. A former policeman named Redman, starts working at a borstal and uncovers a deadly secret regarding a missing boy named Henessey. As Redman unravels the mystery he finds that things are not what they seem and the giant pig in the sty located on the north end of the grounds is actually possessed by the soul of Henessey, who transferred his soul into the pig in order to live forever. “This is the state of the beast. …to eat and be eaten.” Pretty weird, right?
The second adaptation is actually looking to be released before PIG BLOOD. It is called THE MADONNA and it’s got one f*cked-up storyline for sure! Check it: A man named Jerry is trying to redevelop an old recreation complex. However, the complex’s swimming pool has some mysterious inhabitants in the form of nude teenage girls who flee whenever Jerry encounters them. The pool glows with a strange light and appears to be inhabited by some misshapen life-form. Curiosity leads Jerry to return to the place, which somehow causes him to wake up one morning to see that he has been transformed into a woman. Whoa, what the… how do you go from that to… I’m stumped. But at least it said something about nude teenage girls.
THE MADONNA was adapted by Jorge Saralegui. No other production or casting information has been released regarding either of the two new BOOKS OF BLOOD adaptations. I’ll be keeping my eyes out for any further info, though.
