So apparently this upcoming AKIRA adaptation is a big deal, right? It seems to be considering all the attention it’s casting is getting.

Now I’ve said how I’m disinterested in this one before so perhaps that would explain my virgin-esque opinion towards it but that’s not going to stop me from bringing all of you the latest news on Jaume Collet-Serra’s sci-fi adaptation!

You see the latest news from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog has even more names jumping on board to test for the scorching role of ‘Tetsuo.’ Apparently this dude is a big deal or something. So who are the lucky actors to be up for the role? Check it:

D.J. Cotrona, Logan Marshal Green, Toby Kebbell, Richard Madden, Rami Malek, Michael Pitt, Paul Dano and Alden Ehrenreich. Dano (above) and Ehrenreich are actually retesting for the coveted role.

Warner Bros. hope to have this shite locked down by Thanksgiving so I’d assume we can expect a solid announcement on who will be playing ‘Tetsuo’ within the next couple of days.

Neo-Tokyo (now set in New Manhattan) has risen from the ashes of World War III to become a dark and dangerous megalopolis infested with gangs and terrorists. The government seethes with corruption and only maintains a token control over the powerful military that prevents total chaos and hides the secrets of the past. Childhood friends Tetsuo and Kaneda plunge into Neo-Tokyo’s darkest secret when their motorcycle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. Tetsuo, captured by the military, is subjected to experiments that make him a powerful psychic, but, unfortunately for Neo-Tokyo, Tetsuo’s powers rage out of control and he lashes out at the world that has oppressed him.

Garret Hedlund has already been tapped for the role of ‘Kaneda’ with Kristen Stewart (below) being offered the role of ‘Ky Reed.’ Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter have also been offered roles though no announcements have stemmed from that just yet.

You can bet we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for anything else regarding the $90 million production so be sure to check back for more as soon as we hear it.
