Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero actor Joe Taslim signed on to four more films!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

So this is interesting! On this week's Just for Variety Podcast, star Joe Taslim – who plays Sub-Zero (a.k.a. Bi-Han) in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot – revealed that he is currently signed on to four more sequels (assuming the first film does well, of course).

He went on to describe his experience, and his abiding love, of the titular video game franchise:

I was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn’t have the console because it’s expensive. I went to my friend’s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like 10 kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing…so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes.

Now this is all interesting, because – to be clear, as someone who has not seen the new film yet – in the original MK video game lore, Scorpion kills Sub-Zero, leading Bi-Han's brother Kuai Liang to take over the Sub-Zero mantle in the subsequent game sequels. So does Sub-Zero survive this film then? Or, even berter, will Taslim come back as the dark wraith Noob Saibot (which is what happens to Han after his death)? I guess only time will tell!

Anyway, here's the official synopsis for the film:

A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld in a inter-dimensional fighting tournament that occurs once in a generation. Appearances to be made by Shang Tsung, Goro, Jax Briggs, Sonya Blade, Kano, Scorpion and more fan favorites!

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat – directed by Simon McQuoid, and also starring Lewis Tan, Josh Lawson, Jessica McNamee, and Hiroyuki Sanada – will get over here to theaters and HBO Max April 23rd!

So what do you guys think? Would you be down for some Noob in the sequels? Either way, sound off below!
