Update: Armie Hammer debunks the rumor that he’ll suit up as The Batman

The Batman, Armie Hammer, Batman

Update: Welp, that didn’t last long, did it? It’s almost like I knew that the first thing I’d be doing today is writing a retraction for last night’s Armie Hammer rumor. This is why we ask out readers to proceed with caution when situations like this arise.

Here’s the new deal. After last night’s Bat-kerfuffle, The Hollywood Reporter’s Broys Kit and Justin Kroll from Variety (who are both quite reputable when it comes to legit scoops) did some lightweight digging, and confirmed that no, Armie Hammer is in fact not in final talks to play Bruce Wayne/Batman for Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero solo venture.

You can view both Kit and Kroll’s tweets debunking the rumor below:

Furthermore, if Kit and Kroll's words aren't giving you what you need to put this rumor to bed, here's a statement direct from Hammer himself, who spoke to Yahoo!UK about the possibility of him suiting up as the Dark Knight:

“No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they’re done – I think they’re still working on a script. I don’t think that they’re close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

Stop the presses, put away all of your wonderful toys, and prepare to potentially put a smile on your face. According to an exclusive report via Revenge of the Fans, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME and THE SOCIAL NETWORK star Armie Hammer is in final talks to play the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman for director Matt Reeves' Dark Knight solo feature, THE BATMAN.

Now, before you start cranking Prince's "Partyman" up to eleven, I would urge you all to take the following news with a grain of salt. For what it's worth, the Revenge of the Fans article oozes confidence with regard to their scoop, though until we hear something official from Warner Bros., I would keep your shouts of "whoo hoo" inside the Batcave.

One of the things that makes Hammer's potential casting interesting is that the MIRROR MIRROR actor was set to play the Dark Knight almost a decade ago, when MAD MAX: FURY ROAD's George Miller was poised to helm a Justice League feature for the WB titled JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL. Had the film come to fruition, Hammer would have starred as the Caped Crusder in the project, alongside D.J. Cotrona and Adam Brody. In fact, the movie was set to roll cameras in Austrailia, that is until the 07-08 Writers Guild of America strike hit the industry like a well-landed Bat-punch to the gut.

If Hammer does indeed don the cape and cowl, he'll be taking over for Batman actor Ben Affleck, who just recently announced (officially) that he'll be retiring from the role.

Fun Fact: Our own Kevin Fraser suggested Armie Hammer for the role of Bats nearly two weeks ago, by way of his Cast This: The Batman article. Now, I'm not saying that Kevin is responsible for Hammer's potential casting … or am I?
