Arnold Schwarzenegger says new Terminator will begin shooting this summer

After TERMINATOR: GENISYS failed to light the spark for a brand-new TERMINATOR trilogy, I didn't have much faith that the franchise could be lifted from the ashes, but the return of James Cameron, who has had little involvement with the franchise following TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY, changed all that. As Cameron would be regaining certain rights to the franchise, he elected to return to help develop the next installment of the series, which is to be directed by Tim Miller (DEADPOOL). Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will also be returning, setting the stage for what is sure to be a grand reunion. Once again, this new TERMINATOR is expected to be the first of a new trilogy and will serve to hand off the baton to a new generation of characters.

The TERMINATOR sequel was expected to begin shooting later this month, but Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke with TheArnoldFans recently to say that production was pushed back by several months.

We are starting to shoot Terminator 6 in June to the middle of October, so I am in that. I am looking forward to coming back as the T-800 model. It's gonna be great with Tim Miller as the director and Jim Cameron is kind of supervising the whole thing.

We still don't know exactly what type of story the upcoming TERMINATOR film will tell, but we do know that it will be ignoring much of the James Cameron-less part of the franchise, with the director even implying that it would be the true sequel to TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will be returning to "anchor" the story, much like the Original Trilogy characters in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, and Cameron and Miller have been searching for a "18-something young woman to essentially be the new centerpiece of these stories."

TERMINATOR is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2019.
