While little is known about how big of a role that Colin Farrell Batman villain Penguin will play in Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN, Farrell had added himself to the list of performers in the film that are praising Reeves' vision and originality for the project.

Farrell spoke with "SFX Magazine" via "Metro" and he revealed his excitement over being a part of the film:

"The whole prospect is really exciting. I'm ecstatic to be a part of that universe. There are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon and those words are Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent…all of those things. I have been watching the Batman films with my kids, but this script is something that feels incredibly original. It leans into it but it doesn't borrow; it's born of the mythology of that character, Bruce Wayne, Batman and Gotham. But it feels like a treatment and a version that I hadn't seen before. Matt Reeves has done an incredible job of keeping it familiar and at the same time unique and new. It's really exciting to be a part of it."

Oddly enough, even though Farrell is gearing up to play the Penguin, the actor reveals that there was a time two decades ago that there could have been a Colin Farrell Batman on the big screen in a BATMAN VS SUPERMAN movie. Director Wolfgang Petersen was set to direct the project and he recently teased the storyline of the film that could have been until the project was scrapped:

"It was the darkest thing you've ever seen. It started with Alfred's funeral and Bruce has fallen in love and renounced being Batman, the Joker kills his wife, and then you discover it was all a lie. Just that the love itself was constructed by the Joker to break Bruce."

It looks like Farrell is exactly where he needs to be now as he joins Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Andy Serkis in praising what Matt Reeves has done with THE BATMAN. The new take on the Caped Crusader should be able to get back to shooting in the UK shortly so hopefully, all of that enthusiasm is still on display when everyone gets back to work.

Are YOU confident in Matt Reeves' ability to make a successful BATMAN film?
