I'm sure all of you have gotten very accustomed to the frequent release date changes which have come with the COVID-19 pandemic, and Disney announced a handful of further scheduling shifts today which include MULAN, James Cameron's AVATAR sequels, as well as the next slate of STAR WARS movies.

First off, we'll start with MULAN, Disney's live-action adaptation of their animated classic. The film was supposed to hit theaters on March 27th, but was delayed (several times) due to COVID-19 before landing on August 21, 2020. It seems that Disney has now taken the film off its slate indefinitely, with no word on when or how the film will one day be released. "Over the last few months, it’s become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis," reads a statement from a Disney spokesperson, "and today that means pausing our release plans for ‘Mulan’ as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world." Additionally, Disney has moved the AVATAR sequels and upcoming STAR WARS films by a full year. Here's the rundown below:

  • AVATAR 2 moves from December 17, 2021 to December 16, 2022.
  • AVATAR 3 moves from December 22, 2023 to December 20, 2024.
  • AVATAR 4 moves from December 19, 2025 to December 18, 2026.
  • AVATAR 5 moves from December 27, 2027 to December 22, 2028.
  • UNTITLED STAR WARS FILM #1 moves from December 16, 2022 to December 22, 2023.
  • UNTITLED STAR WARS FILM #2 moves from December 20, 2024 to December 19, 2025.
  • UNTITLED STAR WARS FILM #3 moves from December 18, 2026 to December 17, 2027.

Phew. There are a handful of other films which have been shuffled around as well, with DEATH ON THE NILE shifting from October 9, 2020 to October 23, 2020; ANTLERS planting its flag on February 19, 2021; Ridley Scott's THE LAST DUEL moving from December 25, 2020 to October 15, 2021, THE EMPTY MAN pushed back August 7, 2020 to December 4, 2020; and Wes Anderson's THE FRENCH DISPATCH, which was previously slated for an October 16, 2020 release, has now been left without a release date.
