With limited series projects in the works that will center on MCU characters such as Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, Vision, and Scarlet Witch, it was only a matter of time until Disney+ announced that yet another fan-favorite Avenger will be making their way to the upcoming subscription based platform. Today Variety has learned from sources close to the Disney+ service that the streamer is officially developing a limited series aimed at Marvel's Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner.

The action-adventure series is said to present an adventure that has Barton passing the torch to Kate Bishop, aka Hawkeye. In the pages of Marvel comics, Kate is Clint's equal in every way, that includes her skills in marksmanship as well as her limitless sense of valor. Kate is also a member of the Young Avengers, a eclectic group of heroes that includes America Chavez, Hulkling, Wiccan, Prodigy, and No-varr.

Each of the planned series destined for Disney+ are expected to clock in at six to eight episodes, with each show aimed at offering fans a spotlighted look at their favorite MCU characters. Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are producing this exciting lineup of shows, which will all be made using a sizely budget when compared to other television programs.

Of course, Renner has been playing Hawkeye in the MCU since 2011, after arriving with an uncredited cameo is Kenneth Branagh's THOR starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston. The character then went on to star in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. His next outing will be for AVENGERS: ENDGAME, which is schduled to break box office records when it arrives in theaters on April 26th.

Now, on a more personal note … Kate freaking Bishop, you guys! It's finally happening, and I couldn't be happier. I've been a major fan of Kate's since my first read of Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie's Young Avengers, then I followed the character onto Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye. Kate then went on to star in her own solo series from Marvel powerhouse scribe Kelly Thompson, who is just now wrapping her West Coast Avengers series, which has Kate leading a misfit team of heroes against threats in sunny California. While not all of these series performed like gangbusters in the sales department, Kate arrived as a standout each and every time she graced the page. She's witty, weird, and wonderful, and I can't wait to see how she's welcomed onto the MCU small screen. Thanks, Disney+, you're doing good things!
