Dwayne Johnson is Hollywood’s highest-paid actor second year in a row

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Can you smell the size of The Rock's bank account? If you could, you would probably see one that is over-flowing because the man also known as Dwayne Johnson, has been dubbed Hollywood's highest-paid actor for the second year in a row.

According to "Forbes", between June 2019 and June 2020, Johnson pulled in $87.5 million, making $23.5 million alone from his starring role in the upcoming Netflix film RED NOTICE. Like many celebrities working today, Johnson has also garnered assets from endeavors outside of the film industry that includes his Under Armour clothing line, Project Rock.

The very small caveat here is that his earnings were a slight decrease from 2019, during which Johnson brought in $89.4 million from starring in JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL, among other projects. Johnson first topped the list in 2016, with earnings that came in at $64.5 million. Let's just say that Johnson hasn't and won't be hurting for money anytime soon as he has proven to be one of the box office's most consistent performers.

Surprisingly, at least on my end, Johnson's RED NOTICE co-star Ryan Reynolds placed second on the list with $71.5 million. Reynolds was paid $20 million for RED NOTICE, in addition to another $20 million from Netflix for SIX UNDERGROUND. A third Netflix film starring Reynolds is also in the works and that leads to the streamer signing another big paycheck for the actor.

The third and fourth slots belong to Mark Wahlberg and Ben Affleck. Wahlberg came in third with earnings of $58 million. His hefty paychecks came from the action-comedy SPENSER CONFIDENTIAL, another paycheck handed out by Netflix, as well as his production roles on documentaries like McMillions” and Wahl Street. Affleck pulled in $55 million in earnings from his big-screen endeavors like THE WAY BACK and THE LAST THING HE WANTED.

Rounding out the top 5 is Vin Diesel, who still made $54 million despite the release date of FAST AND FURIOUS 9 being pushed back to next year. His production role on Netflix’s animated spin-off, Fast and Furious Spy Races, is what brought in more money for the actor and provides another example that not all earnings need to come from being in front of the camera. Dabbling in a few producing ventures also brings in the big checks that get you on this list.
