First look at Daniel Day Lewis as Abe in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln!

Daniel Day Lewis is down in Richmond, Virginia for Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN, and the great actor has been spotted walking around town with familiar facial hair. One local by the name of Michael Phillips ran into him eating a meal and snapped this shot, which he promptly uploaded to twitter.

As usual, Day-Lewis is going all nutty method acting for this project, apparently speaking in Abraham Lincoln’s famous accent for the better part of the year, and as you can see he’s got the beard down pretty damn perfect. Is it too much to say that even with the jeans and turtleneck he’s exuding the character?

LINCOLN’s set to open late 2012 and also stars Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, and Jared Harris as Ulysses S. Grant. No word on if Harris is walking around town rocking Grant’s beard.
