GHOSTBUSTERS was released over thirty-five years ago, but thanks to the unusual situation much of the world has found itself in, the classic film has managed to top the weekend box-office once again. The COVID-19 pandemic has kept theaters across the globe closed for months, and although many of the major chains are slowly beginning to reopen in a limited capacity, sources say that close to 90% of the box-office business is coming from drive-in-theaters.

Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, GHOSTBUSTERS is the perfect blend of comedy, action, and supernatural horror, and upon its release in 1984, the film stayed at the #1 spot for seven consecutive weeks. It seems that the film has once again found itself in the top spot as Deadline has reported that GHOSTBUSTERS has grossed $550K over the 3-day weekend, pushing its box-office haul to $656K since its re-opening at the start of the month. Not bad at all. Over the past few weeks, we've seen several films from the past return to the number one spot at the box-office, including Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK.

When theaters do get back to business, there's a very good chance that the GHOSTBUSTERS franchise will once again return to the top-spot when GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE is released. Serving as a direct sequel to the original two GHOSTBUSTER films, the upcoming sequel stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, and Paul Rudd, but it's also set to feature GHOSTBUSTERS stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts all reprising their original roles. When a single mother and her two children move to a new town," reads the official synopsis, "they soon discover that they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and their grandfather's secret legacy." GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE was originally set to hit theaters on July 10, 2020, but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Pictures has pushed the film back to March 5, 2021.
