It’s Apocalypse Kong in the Imax poster for Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island banner

A wealth of KONG: SKULL ISLAND information hit yesterday (shameless plug HERE) and it looks like director Jordan Vogt-Roberts isn't letting up on the goodies! We now have the IMAX poster for SKULL ISLAND, which if you haven't noticed, is a riff on APOCALYPSE NOW. A smart move, if you ask me, as it sets us up for how the tone of the movie will play out. Take a look!

Kong: Skull Island Imax poster

I've seen some folks online who claim that the poster is "ripping off" APOCALYPSE NOW, but that's the point! The influences don't end there, however, as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, JURASSIC PARK, and PRINCESS MONONOKE were also considered when talking about the tone of the film and its creatures. You can check out more with our breakdown video below, but in the meantime, it's time to starting getting hyped for the return of KONG!

KONG: SKULL ISLAND opens in theaters on March 10, 2017.
