It's safe to say that not everyone was a fan of Jared Leto's take on the Joker in David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD, which is why is came as a surprise when it was revealed last month that Leto was slated to reprise the role for the additional photography for Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE. It remains to be seen just how the Joker will factor into Snyder's four-hour JUSTICE LEAGUE saga, but it seems that this won't be quite the same Joker we met in SUICIDE SQUAD.

While speaking with Beyond the Trailer's Grace Randolph, Zack Snyder commented on Jared Leto joining the project and teased that although the film will honour the previous incarnation of the character, he will have something of a new look.

It is true. I wanted to of course honor what had been created with him because I thought it was really cool, but also in this, I'm not going to tell you what happens in the little scene, but some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between when last we saw Joker and this appearance. So he's made some… he's a road-weary Joker, I guess that's a way of saying it.

As far as Jared Leto's reaction towards reprising the role, Snyder said that the actor "was really gracious with his entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like, even when I was working on Justice League in London, I felt like was an inevitable course that the movie had to take. So when I told him it was a thing that I'd been kicking around in my head for quite a while I feel like he just kinda warmed up to this idea that was kind of an inevitable thing that kinda had to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it." Although much has been said about Snyder's additional photography for JUSTICE LEAGUE, the director added that at the end of the day, the reshoots will only amount to "about four minutes or five minutes" for the entire four-hour series.

Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE will debut on HBO Max in 2021.
