Kevin Hart takes the lead in action-comedy from Broad City duo

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Kevin Hart is setting up his next project and it will reunite him with his NIGHT SCHOOL director Malcom D. Lee while featuring a script from Broad City duo, Lucia Aniello & Paul W. Downs.

Plot details for the untitled action-comedy are being kept under wraps but the project reunites more behind the scenes players to bring the film to the big screen. Will Packer (GIRLS TRIP) and James Lopez is producing the comedy with the former having already worked with Hart on the RIDE ALONG movies. Hart, Aniello, & Downs will also receive executive producer credit while Erik Baiers & Christine Sun will oversee the project for Universal Pictures. Sheila Walcott will oversee matters for Lee's company and Bryan Smiley & Carli Haney will be focusing on Hart's banner. Needless to say, there is no shortage of names that can keep the plot under wraps until it's ready to be revealed.

Hart is coming off a 2019 which saw him get into a life changing car accident but the real life event has seemed to recharge the popular comedian/actor who is showing no signs of slowing down. Hart was last seen on the big screen in the sequel JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL which has grossed a staggering $788 million worldwide. Hart also got real with fans in the Netflix special Don't F**ck This Up which gave us an honest look into his life. The actor will return to the big screen in Sony's dramedy, FATHERHOOD, which hits screens next January. Hart also just recently signed up to star opposite Jason Statham in the action-comedy THE MAN FROM TORONTO.

Broad City duo Aniello & Downs have kept very busy outside of that popular fan-favorite series. The pair previously teamed on the 2017 comedy ROUGH NIGHT which starred Scarlett Johansson and since then Aniello directed the pilot for Comedy Central's Awkwafina is Nora From Queens. She'll also be tackling the Netflix reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club. Together, Aniello & Downs are prepping to shoot an untitled pilot for HBO Max that they wrote and created with Jen Statsky.

I was a big fan of Broad City and I was probably one of the few that enjoyed ROUGH NIGHT as well so I'm interested in seeing what the pair comes up with to go along with Kevin Hart's comedic talent. Hart's comedies don't always hit but he's usually enough to at least get my butt in the seat.

Are YOU excited to see what this trio comes up with?
