Lethal Weapon 5, Mel Gibson, confirms

If you were watching Good Morning American last Friday, you were gifted with a little bit of info about the status of the fifth film in the LETHAL WEAPON franchise. Mel Gibson was on the morning news program to promote FATMAN when he dropped a bit of news on the film that will reunite him with co-star, Danny Glover.

Good Morning America co-host, Michael Strahan, reminded Gibson that the last time he was on the show he discussed the possibility of a LETHAL WEAPON 5 and he was curious if the project was still in the works. Gibson confirmed that director Richard Donner was working on the project and that it is still happening. You can check out Gibson's full response about the fifth film at the 3:53 mark in the video featured below:

The LETHAL WEAPON franchise was created by Shane Black and launched back in 1987. All four films of the franchise were directed by Richard Donner and starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. Each film proved to be very successful at the box office and the franchise as a whole has grossed $950 million at the worldwide box office. The franchise also spawned a television series that ran from 2016 to 2019 and featured new performers in the roles of Riggs and Murtaugh.

Danny Glover once uttered the line "I'm getting too old for this sh*t" in 1987's LETHAL WEAPON and a part of me feels that Glover, who is 74, and Gibson, who is 64, could be at the point to really make a fifth installment feasible but Donner has a good idea for another film I'm willing to roll with it. Glover did mention back in July that the script he had been reading for the fifth film resonates with current events so it could also be striving to add topical elements to go with the buddy cop action.
