Kate Herron, Loki, director, season 2

While Loki will be back to cause more mischief for a second season at Disney+, a key creative figure will not be returning. Director and Executive Producer, Kate Herron, says she will not be back for season two.

During a chat with "Deadline", Herron said, "I'm not returning I always planned to be just on for this, to be honest, season 2 wasn't in the – that's something that just came out and I'm so excited. I'm really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I think I'm proud of what. we did here and I've given it my all. I'm working on some other stuff yet to be announced."

The news comes as a bit of a surprise for fans because she was said to be the main force behind season one from the creative perspective. Her shoes may be tough to fill but Marvel is also no stranger to finding great talent to navigate their projects. Herron was also asked if she would possibly be involved in a Marvel film and the director said, "No, I'm just focused on my own stuff at the moment. I love Marvel and I'd love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I've done with them."

Herron became Marel's top choice for Loki after she pitched her vision to the Marvel brass which included stylistic choices that were inspired by Blade Runner and Minority Report. Herron also put in her own casting choices for the season which further showed how much Marvel believed in her vision. They went all in and never looked back.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the titular God of Mischief and it takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. He is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a "time-variant", or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. The series also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, and Tara Strong.
