Update: WB has confirmed that MAN OF STEEL is not currently set to be post-converted into IMAX 3D.  That doesn’t mean it won’t still happen – perhaps the cat was merely let out of the bag early ahead of a big planned announcement? Or not, I suppose. Either is possible.

Original Story: 3D is still going strong despite my bitching to my friends about it, and the latest project to take the path well-traveled and post-convert to 3D is going to be Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL. Though in this case it will not just be any 3D but IMAX 3D specifically, which is probably the smart choice for a movie as vast in scope as MAN OF STEEL undoubtably is.

As to why it wasn’t shot in 3D to begin with, that I cannot tell you.  Perhaps Snyder initially held out due to producer Christopher Nolan’s personal stance on 3D (he’s not a fan) but has since changed his mind and/or been strong-armed by the studio.  Perhaps, now that the release date is still just a bit less than a year away, Warner Bros and Snyder collectively decided “why the hell not.”  Anyway and either way, it is now happening.

MAN OF STEEL will be out in cinemas on June 14th, 2013.  Our first real glimpse of the movie’s progress should come this Saturday at Comic-Con and, I think it’s easy to imagine, a week after that as a trailer in front THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

The new plot synopsis: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Amy Adams is going to be the best Lois Lane a Superman project has seen, hands down.
