Margot Robbie in talks for Rupert Sanders’ live-action Ghost in the Shell

Yes, even though there hasn't been any news on the planned live-action version of GHOST IN THE SHELL since Rupert Sanders (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN) joined the project in January, it's still happening, and The Wrap has learned Margot Robbie (THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, David Yates' TARZAN) is in talks to star in the film.

No word on what role Robbie might be up for, however some believe she's being considered for Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg heroine from the anime and manga series. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the movie, and the script is by THE HOAX and THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST scribe William Wheeler.

I'm not a huge anime guy and although I'm also not that familiar with GHOST IN THE SHELL, I have a feeling a lot of fans aren't going to be happy if Margot Robbie does end up playing the character in the film. I just think many would rather see the role go to a Japanese actress, like PACIFIC RIM's Rinko Kikuchi for example.

Maybe I'm wrong though. What are your thoughts on Margot Robbie possibly playing Motoko Kusanagi in Rupert Sanders' GHOST IN THE SHELL?
