Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon land in Mud for Jeff Nichols

Please don't let this be a romcom, please don't let this be a romcom...

Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon will be starring in MUD directed and written by Jeff Nichols (TAKE SHELTER).

In this little romp, "a charismatic fugitive named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) and his unlikely friendship with fourteen year old Ellis (Tye Sheridan). Ellis is determined to help his new friend escape from both the law and some very serious bounty hunters, in order to reunite Mud with his soul mate, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon)." It's like Huck Finn meets a hundred romantic plots.

McConaughey will work his southern accent, take his shirt off, and run his fingers through his sweaty hair. That's the entire movie. Well, it's the only part women will be interested in. Except for the whole soul mate thing. Ladies will be teary eyed and shouting, "They belong together!!!" while shoving gummy bears in their mouths. Oh, I've been there, I'm not judging.

Lisa Maria Falcone, founder of Everest Entertainment had this to say on the project, “Jeff Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances. With Jeff’s vision, this will be a work of art. It’s an incredible script which Jeff, along with Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan, will bring to life. We’ve been privileged to work with incredible filmmakers like Danny Boyle, Tom McCarthy and Rodrigo Garcia and are thankful to add Jeff Nichols to that list.”
