Netflix discovers Gina Rodriguez for a new Carmen Sandiego animated series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

For years, people have been asking themselves, "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?" It turns out that Netflix knows the answer to that question, as it's been announced that the premiere streaming service has ordered a new animated series with JANE THE VIRGIN‘s Gina Rodriguez voicing the title character for a 2019 release window.

Produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the new CARMEN SANDIEGO animated series will consist of 20 episodes that will focus on a grouping of international capers but will also delve into Carmen’s past while striving to inform a new generation of viewers about who she is and why she became a cunning thief. Additionally, STRANGER THINGS alum Finn Wolfhard will voice Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend.

With Duane Capizzi (THE BATMAN) set as the show's co-executive producer and showrunner of the upcoming Netflix series, CJ Kettler (THE TICK) as executive producer and Caroline Fraser stepping up as the executive in charge of production, this new iteration of CARMEN SANDIEGO looks to take the 1980s computer game franchise Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? to new heights, and perhaps even re-bottle some of the magic created by the  Greg Lee-hosted game show that aired on PBS from 1991-95.

You can expect to uncover more details about this exciting show as time marches on. For now, be sure to catch Finn Wolfhard in STRANGER THINGS, which is available to stream right now on Netflix.
