Rumor: New Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer & poster to debut next week

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Back in December, the rumor that the full trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS would debut in front of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON gained creedence around the internet. It made perfect sense since the AVENGERS sequel would be Disney's highest profile release at the beginning of Summer and would cater to the same audience anticipating J.J. Abrams' scifi sequel. Now, new rumors suggest we could see the new trailer even sooner.

Collider reports that their sources have the first poster and full trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS debuting next week at STAR WARS Celebration 2015 in Anaheim, California. The STAR WARS convention caters to fans of George Lucas' franchise in a way that could never be matched by San Diego Comic Con. The timing of the convention being just a few weeks prior to the May 1st premiere of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON also puts the timing right on target.

The question now becomes whether the trailer will be released to the general public. Like the BATMAN V SUPERMAN and first AGE OF ULTRON teasers, there is a chance Disney could elect to build buzz out of the weekl long STAR WARS Celebration next week and debut the full trailer with AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. I would anticipate a huge number of bootleg copies of the trailer and poster to hit online if they decide to wait, but it would definitely inflate the already massive expected box office for the Marvel film when it opens. At the very least, we have just weeks away before we get a look at new footage from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.

STAR WARS Celebration 2015 takes place April 16-19 with J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and more in attendance. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens on December 18, 2015.
