Sigourney Weaver confirms that she’s a lock for the new Ghostbusters film

Happy Friday, everybody! Are you ready for some GHOSBUSTERS news that's bound to make you feel good?

According to a new report posted by Parade, original GHOSTBUSTERS legend Sigourney Weaver is confirmed to be reprising her role as Dana Barrett for director Jason Reitman's UNTITLED GHOSTBUSTERS PROJECT! “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver said with regard to joining her GHOSTBUSTERS co-stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd for the upcoming film. While she didn't reveal much beyond her return to the franchise, I'd say that this new information is more than enough to get fans pumped, for now.

In Ivan Reitman's GHOSTBUSTERS (1984), Weaver played Dana Barrett, the paranormal investigator's first bonafide customer and professional musician living in New York. As per Reitman's classic supernatural spectacle, Dana lived in the same building as Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), where she was being haunted by a malevolent entity named Zuul. In time, Dana sought the aid of the Ghostbusters, and in doing so soon became romantically involved with Bill Murray's Dr. Peter Venkman. In the final act of the film, Dana had become possessed, with her primary objective being to find and mate with Vinz Clortho, another minion of Gozer who had likewise now inhabited Dana's nerdy, stalkerish neighbor, Louis. Under Zuul's control, Dana became a lot more sensual and sexually aggressive, desperately attempting to seduce Peter under the false impression that he was The Keymaster. Dana was later rescued by the Ghostbusters, and reverted back to her human form. (Ghostbusters Wikia)

Her character appeared again in GHOSTBUSTERS II (1989), as the mother of Oscar, an infant child coveted by the demon Vigo. Oscar was to be Vigo's vessel for his return to the new world, though his efforts were thwarted by Dana and the ghostbusting team.

For Reitman's upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS adventure, the film is said to focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.

Carrie Coon is set to star as a single mother, with Finn Wolfhard as her son and Mckenna Grace playing the role of her daughter. Meanwhile, Murray and Aykroyd have been rumored to star as well, though perhaps now with Weaver confirming their return we can count them as being on board.

Jason Reitman's UNTITLED GHOSTBUSTERS PROJECT is set for a July 10, 2020 release in theaters.
