Skarsgard says there’s “a few ideas floating around” for an It: Chapter 3

It: Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti, Bill Skarsgard

After scaring up another successful week at the box office with an estimated $40.7 million domestic take, director Andy Muschietti's IT: CHAPTER TWO has Warner Bros. Pictures floating on air. To date, the rebooted Stephen King-inspired franchise has earned a combined total of $1.02 billion, making it one of the most successful horror franchises ever. With that kind of money rolling in, it should come as no surprise that Muschietti and company have entertained the idea of creating yet another film for King's killer clown saga.

Recently while attending a press event for VILLAINS, an upcoming horror comedy starring Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard, Maika Monroe and Jefferey Donovan, Arrow in the Head's own Eric Walkuski asked Skarsgard about the likelihood of there being an IT: CHAPTER THREE.

"Andy and I have discussed ideas for what a third movie would look like. I don't think it's quite what people expect. It's something different. The first two stories are the book, and the second film is the end of that story. So we would do something quite literally off book. There are a few ideas floating around. I feel like I've done what I can with the incarnation of Pennywise as we know of him, so I think it would be a cool idea to change up a few things. So, without going into too much detail, there is a story that we're kind of excited about, but it's way too early to say. But we'll see, we'll see," Skarsgard revealed.

Skarsgard and Muschietti have previously stated that they're open to the idea of creating another chapter of the It franchise, though it sounds as if they already have an idea as to what they'd like that next story to be about.

When word broke about the potential of another It movie, fans of the killer clown were quick to share their ideas online. Personally, I think a prequel to King's original story would be something worth considering. After all, plenty of lore has already been teased about the horrendous history of Derry, including Pennywise's time as a dancing clown for a traveling circus. It's also possible that a prequel could explore the concepts of King's Macroverse, a dimension outside the regions of space where the "Glamour" that later became Pennywise originated.

What do you think about the idea of creating another chapter of It that hails from outside of King's original story? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
