Professional basketball legend Lebron James is getting ready to hit the court with a team of new players for what is sure to be an animated game.

Entertainment Weekly has debuted a batch of new images for Space Jam: A New Legacy, giving fans their first real look at the long-gestating Looney Tunes feature. Dribbling into theaters and onto HBO Max on July 16, the follow-up to 1996's Space Jam, starring Michael "Air" Jordan, is set to be one of the hottest cinematic events of the Summer.

Plot details for the follow-up have yet to be revealed, though we do know the CGI-hybrid comedy will revolve around Lebron James and the Looney Tunes teaming up for a game of B-ball. I know that isn't much and rather self-evident, but it's all we've got at the moment.

Joining Lebron James for Space Jam: A New Legacy are Sonequa Martin-Green, Xosha Roquemore, Khris Davis, Martin Klebba, J. Michael Tatum, Eric Bauza, Jeff Bergman, Katie McCabe, Anna Sofie Christensen, Whitney Coleman, Nicole Kornet, Skyler Bible, and Don Cheadle.

For EW's coverage, the outlet shared a stunning magazine cover featuring Lebron James and the Looney Tunes. In addition to the brightly-colored cover, we also have our first official images from the film.

While movie fans are bound to refer to Space Jam: A New Legacy as a sequel, everyone involved is quick to stress that this is no sequel and that the new film stands on its own. While that's all well and good, it's going to be difficult to get out from under the massive shadow that Space Jam casts to this very day. After all, there's a whole generation of Space Jam fans that swear by that movie, and they're going to be counting on this movie to blow some minds. I wish you luck, Mr. James. You're going to need it.
