Steve Carell attached to sports comedy Lunatics, now officially attached to every movie

Now I know why Steve Carell had to leave “The Office.” He’s attached to so many movies, there’s no way he could do all that attaching while still attached to a TV show. Steve Carell, you are officially everywhere.

Carell is now attached to star in the sports comedy LUNATICS, based on the novel by humorists Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel. The film stars two New Jersey soccer dads whose feud on the field escalates into a real-world war. Carell would play Phillip Horkman, one of the dads who serves as a youth soccer referee and runs afoul of one of the kid’s dads.

Among the many projects Carell has attached himself to are FOXCATCHER, the John Du Pont biopic, Joel Silver’s CONVICTION, Charlie Kaufman’s FRANK OR FRANCIS, the DreamWorks film RAISED BY WOLVES and THE ABSTINENCE TEACHER with Sandra Bullock. This is not to mention SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, the comedy he just wrapped with Keira Knightley and BURT WONDERSTONE, the comedy with Jim Carrey he’s about to start filming.

I like Carell – he’s a funny and nice guy who worked very hard for his success and deserves all the good things coming to him – but it would be nice to see a little variety when it comes to comedy casting.
