Stunning new Endgame poster embraces the legacy of the Avengers

avengers, poster, legacy

We have no idea how the ending of AVENGERS: ENDGAME will play out, but we do know that it’s the culmination of over a decade of filmmaking, with some actors portraying some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for much of that time. This might be their swan song, particularly for series vets Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America/Steve Rogers) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man/Tony Stark), and a new poster for the upcoming epic reflects on their legacy in the MCU by showing just how far they’ve come over the years. Ah, here some the waterworks!

Posted on Instagram by Marvel, the first in a series of ten posters by Skinner Creative utilizes the purple color scheme of the other posters and finds the present-day forms of Thor, Cap and Iron Man standing in front of a pool of water. In the reflection, we see how they looked when we first met in their debut movies, like Cap when he was just skinny Steve Rogers, Iron Man's first suit he used to escape the cave and Thor with a shorter weapon and longer hair.

This poster was released yesterday to mark 10 days until the release of ENDGAME, with the caption promising a total of ten posters to be released. We can assume that means one new poster a day, likely featuring other characters from the series, including Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and more.

While there are plenty of other heroes who grace/have graced the MCU, the three in the poster are certainly the Holy Trinity of the series. Yes, Hulk technically got his own solo movie in Phase 1, but it was the movies of these three we all paid attention to when leading up to the very first AVENGERS in 2012. The moment when it all settled in that this bigger world was truly coming to life was when the three clashed in the woods after capturing Loki, coming to an end when Thor brought the hammer down on Cap’s shield. Now all three must work together once again to bring down the Mad Titan, Thanos (Josh Brolin), once and for all. Only then can they go back into the woods for round two. My money is on Thor and his new Groot-hand ax.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is in theaters April 26.
