Tarantino says he and Uma Thurman are still talking about Kill Bill Vol. 3

Just when you thought your hopes for a KILL BILL VOL. 3 had been dashed by Quentin Tarantino's plans to retire from making theatrical films, a recent spot on MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast reveals otherwise.

“Me and Uma have talked about it recently, frankly, to tell you the truth,” Tarantino said during his podcast interview. “I have thought about it a little further. We were talking about it literally last week. If any of my movies were going to spring from my other movies, it would be a third ‘Kill Bill.’”

In addition to the above statements, Tarantino also confirmed that he and KILL BILL actress Uma Thurman are still talking about contiuing the martial arts film series. For what feels like forever, Tarantino has been teasing plans for a third volume, which could involve the now-adult daughter of Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) seeking vengeance against Thurman’s Beatrix/The Bride for killing her mother.

Here's the thing, though. Toward the beginning on July, Tarantino sat down with GQ Australia, and admitted that he might be done making theater-bound releases. “I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road," he said. "I see myself writing film books and starting to write theatre, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.” With words like that, one has to wonder if KILL BILL VOL. 3 will arrive as something other than a proper theatrical release. Could it be that the next chapter in the KILL BILL franchise (if it arrives at all) will be presented as a television series or stage play?

Another element to Tarantino's supposed plans to retire from making theatrical films that doesn't quite add up, is the fact that he's attached to an R-rated STAR TREK movie that is currently in development. For the moment, very little is known about the project other than that Tarantino could direct. Should this be the case, does that mean that the STAR TREK project will be Tarantino's next after ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD? And if so, does the galaxy-trotting feature count as the filmmaker's tenth and final film destined for cinemas? If you ask me, it's all very confusing, and maybe you shouldn't announce your retirement from things until you're actually ready and willing to call it quits.

I have questions: Will KILL BILL VOL. 3 or the UNTITLED STAR TREK PROJECT be Tarantino's next and final film? Is the "retirement" story just smoke and mirrors? Does the world even need an R-rated Star Trek movie? Personally, I'd love to see KILL BILL VOL. 3 finally get made. If Tarantino is to retire from making feature films, I feel as if capping that seires would be a great way to go out with a bang.
