Taron Egerton says the Kingsman 3 script is a befitting end to the trilogy

When Matthew Vaughn's THE KING'S MAN arrives in theaters, the prequel to one of cinema's most imaginative spy thrillers is poised to take fans back to where the franchise first introduced its gathering of gallant operatives. The aforementioned film is set to stroll into theaters on February 14, 2020, though a question still remains: What's to become of Taron Egerton's Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin, and when will we get a sequel to KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE?

Allow me to shed a bit of light on this situation.

Recently while attending ACE Comic Con Midwest this past weekend, Egerton confirmed the existence of a KINGSMAN 3 script, which he says will serve as a "befitting way to finish the trilogy." When asked to elaborate on his reading of the script, Egerton stated, "I'm really not allowed to say anything, but there is a script. It's a really neat idea. That plan, at the moment, is that we'd like to do another one, one more time," he teased. "It was the role that kind of started my film career, so I'm always going to feel, you know, a great fondness for the part. I would like to do one more because frankly, I'd like to say goodbye to him [Eggsy] in a befitting way and to finish the trilogy. All good things come to an end. It was always imagined as a trilogy, and I think it'd be great to finish the story off because I've loved playing the character."

Previously, Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn reiterated that he has at least one more story to share involving Eggsy and Galahad's (Colin Firth) partnership:

"The end of this movie, Golden Circle, if you think about it: you have Eggsy's definitely going to go on a new journey. Galahad, or Harry Hart's going on a new journey. Tequila's going on a new journey. Jeff's (Bridges) going on a new journey, Halle (Berry), the new agent Whiskey, is. The next movie is what happens to these characters. They're definitely not going to be doing what you've seen them do before."

Thankfully, fans of Vaughn's Kingsman franchise won't have to wait very long for more off-the-wall superspy action, thanks to THE KING'S MAN. For the upcoming prequel, a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds have gathered to plot a war to wipe out millions. Unfortunately for them, and quite fortunatrely for us, one man is ready and willing to race against the clock to see their evil plans turned to nothing more than dust in the wind.

Set to star in THE KING'S MAN are Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, with Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance. The prequel promises to be just as bombastic as the franchise's other installments, despite taking place decades before Eggsy and Harry stepped onto the scene.

As a major fan of the Kingsman franchise, I am more than ready to embrace both THE KING'S MAN as well as the stirring conclusion to Eggsy's tenure. For my money, the series has taken action spy thrillers to new heights thanks to its outrageous cast of characters and eagerness to push the boundaries of the genre. Plus, how could you not love a series that features the damn-near mythical Elton John f*cking people up with a pair of platform shoes?

THE KING'S MAN will saunter into theaters beginning on February 14, 2020.
