TSA is saying no to the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ‘detonator’ Coke bottles

When you visit the world of Batuu that exists as part of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge park at Disneyland, there’s a seemingly endless array of things to do, see, and buy. Among the most coveted and easily acquired souvenirs are the uniquely designed Coke bottles shaped like thermal detonators, fit with the fictional language Aurebesh on the side. But good luck getting them home to your collection shelf because the Transportation Security Administration – the TSA – has put the kibosh on traveling on planes with the bottles in tow.

While the bottles contain the same fluids you would find in any other bottle of Coke, Diet Coke, or Sprite, fans became eager to collect them as part of their Galaxy’s Edge experience. The fact they look like a miniature explosive device is part of the fun, but it’s also the reason you can’t bring them onboard your flight. The TSA made that clear when asked about the matter on social media, confirming that you cannot pack them in either carry-on or checked baggage (via CNBC).

The TSA even followed up with another inquiry from someone asking if they could bring them on if they were altered to not look so…explosive, like with the cap taken off. “Even with a normal bottle cap, this item is still considered a replica and is not allowed in carry-on or checked bags. If our officers discover a replica item during screening and believes it’s real, the item will be treated as such until advised otherwise by law enforcement.”

This whole big bummer aside, that doesn't mean you can't bring on other gifts you can get from the park. While Coke bottles that look like bombs but are definitely bottles of Coke are a no-go, passengers are very much allowed to bring in their specially made lightsabers onto the plane in carry-on or checked bags. Same applies to the droids you can buy, and even though those could also look like bombs, they're cute bombs, so it's okay. 

STAR WARS: GALAXY'S EDGE is open at Disneyland in California now, and will open at Disney World in Orlando, Florida tomorrow.
