Avengers: Endgame assembles another amazing weekend!

Marvel’s all-star superhero smackdown continued to crush all competition on its second weekend at the box office as AVENGERS: ENDGAME amassed an estimated $145.8 million!

The gargantuan MCU entry dropped by 59% from its record-setting opening last week, a larger percentage than the 55% second-week decline of last year’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (which opened with $257.6 million compared to ENDGAME’s $357 million start), but equal to the 59% second-weekend slide for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (aka AVENGERS 2.5).

The dizzying PG-13 costumed extravaganza from directors Anthony and Joe Russo has a ten-day domestic total of $619.6 million, already making it the ninth-biggest release in domestic history. After tomorrow evening it will have zoomed past the $623 million domestic finish of the original THE AVENGERS in 2012, along with the $620 million total of 2017’s STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

Marvel’s latest big-screen chapter has also reached a towering total of $2.18 billion worldwide to become the second-highest grossing global release ever, drifting past the $2.17 billion finish of TITANIC in 1997, the $2.06 billion total of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS in 2015, and the $2.04 billion of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Only the $2.7 billion worldwide total of 2009’s AVATAR lies ahead of Marvel’s $350 million A-list juggernaut, which has contributed to a $20.8 billion collective worldwide total across the 22 features in their Cinematic Universe.

A few daring releases tried to make a dent in Marvel’s blistering blowout, with THE INTRUDER taking second place with an opening weekend of $11 million.

The new PG-13 thriller, with Dennis Quaid menacing new homeowners Michael Ealy and Meagan Good, cost a reported $8 million.

Despite having to face an array of famous comic characters, director Deon Taylor‘s latest effort started better than his R-rated Paula Patton thriller TRAFFIK, which opened to $3.9 million last April.

Critics weren’t overly enthralled with Quaid’s unpleasant interruption of domestic bliss, giving the movie a 27% average on Rotten Tomatoes. Creep on over to the JoBlo review HERE.

The new R-rated comedy LONG SHOT opened in third place with $10 million for the weekend.

The romcom, with presidential hopeful Charlize Theron getting amorously involved with Seth Rogen‘s rumpled journalist, came with a reported cost of $40 million.

Director Jonathan Levine‘s latest barely got halfway to the $19.5 million opening of his 2017 Goldie Hawn/Amy Schumer summer comedy SNATCHED, but came out just ahead of his previous Rogen collaboration THE NIGHT BEFORE, which started with $9.8 million in November 2015.

Critics seemed to enjoy the blend of political commentary and unlikely chemistry, giving the movie an 83% average on Rotten Tomatoes. You can hook up with the JoBlo review HERE.

Opening in fourth place was the new PG-rated animated feature UGLYDOLLS with $8.5 million.

Based on the line of colorful plush toys, the musical comedy produced by produced by Robert Rodriguez (!!) and featuring vocals from Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae and Ice-T (!!) cost a reported $45 million.

The adorably weird denizens of Uglyville didn’t provide too much delight for critics, who gave the movie a 34% average on Rotten Tomatoes.

In fifth place was CAPTAIN MARVEL with $4.2 million over its ninth weekend in theaters, arriving at a domestic total of $420.7 million and $1.12 billion worldwide at the same time as Brie Larson‘s galactic powerhouse assists her fellow Marvel heroes in AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

The PG-rated drama BREAKTHROUGH was in sixth place with $3.9 million, taking the $14 million faith-based story to $33.2 million domestic and $41 million worldwide on its third weekend.

THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA haunted seventh place with $3.5 million. After three weekends, the R-rated supernatural thriller produced by James Wan has a domestic total of $48.1 million and a worldwide total of $103.5 million, on a reported $9 million cost.

The DC Comics superhero SHAZAM! was in eighth place with $2.4 million, which brings the $100 million adventure with Zachary Levi to a $135.1 million domestic total and $355.5 million worldwide on its fifth weekend.

In ninth place was the PG-13 Regina Hall comedy LITTLE with $1.4 million, giving the $20 million fantasy a domestic total of $38.5 million and a worldwide total of $46 million.

Closing out the list was Disney’s live-action update of flying-elephant tale DUMBO with $1.4 million. On its sixth weekend, the $170 million remake from director Tim Burton has gathered $109.7 million domestic and $338.7 million worldwide.

Outside the chart, PET SEMATARY returned to the grave and Jordan Peele‘s US detached from the Top 10 (just short of reaching the domestic and global totals of his debut GET OUT), while Disney’s nature documentary PENGUINS waddled back to the chilly wilds.

In limited release, the new Joe Carnahan-produced crime thriller EL CHICANO opened on 605 screens for a $700k weekend. Critics didn’t seem to care for the Latinx-fronted old-school action flick, giving the movie a 38% average on Rotten Tomatoes (shoot over to the JoBlo review HERE).

Next weekend brings more releases into the mix, including the videogame adaptation POKEMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU (with Ryan Reynolds voicing the yellow rabbit-thing), the Anne Hathaway/Rebel Wilson comedy THE HUSTLE, and the biopic of “Lord of the Rings” creator TOLKIEN.
