“I was alive, but now I’m dead. Thanks, MPAA.”
A new week is upon us, and with it, another head-scratcher courtesy of the MPAA. You remember that teaser poster that fellow bad dude Scott touched on? Well, it turns out that the poster we saw was a revised version of what what submitted to the MPAA.
The dudes over at EatMyBrains snagged the original poster, as well as an explaination (if you can call it that) on why the original was rejected. Turns out the MPAA have a beef with showing a hand, albeit a live one, poking through a bag and clawing at the ground. In the revised one, we see no hand, and what looks to be a dead body in the bag. Seriously, what the hell? This is better?
This is another one of those things that the MPAA does that makes the whole situation worse. Case in point: Paul Verhoeven’s classic ROBOCOP had over the top violence that bordered on ridiculous (his intention) before the MPAA got ahold of it. After the cutting, the violence was trimmed in such a way that it became more upsetting than absurd. Plus, censorship sucks.
