Since I know half of you out there are already planning for the movies you’re going to be seeing next summer, I have a few release date updates that you’ll want to take note of… so you start preparing your weekends next year for the movie madness that’s going to hit.
It looks like Universal is pulling the ol’ switcheroo with their big ticket genre movies, swopping the release dates of THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR and HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY. The sequel to HELLBOY went from an August 1st release to a more competitive July 11th release date. That July date will now battle it out with THE DARK KNIGHT one week later, and Ben Stiller’s action/comedy TROPIC THUNDER. The picture above is what Hellboy is going to do the competition… but that’s just my prediction!
Which means that the third Brenden Fraser/ Rachel Weisz-less MUMMY movie is bowing in on August 1st, with no competition at this point in time. That won’t last, of course, but no juggernauts have made their announcements on that date yet. Though the big stars aren’t returning, with Jet Li as the new Mummy, it’ll likely make some pretty decent money.
