NBC takes a bite out of new “Dracula” series with 10-episode order, Jonathan Rhys Meyers to star

Only took 6 months or so, but it looks like NBC is in bed with “Dracula!”

Back in January we told you NBC ordered an operatic script-to-series take on “Dracula” from producers Tony Krantz and Colin Callender. At the time, the thinking was a 13-episode order would be made if studio brass liked the development, but now, according to Deadline, a 10-episode order has been made. Not only that, word is “The Tudors” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers (seen right) has signed on to play the titular vampire. NBC will is jointly producing with UK company Sky Living.

Written by Cole Haddon: Dracula (Meyers) arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.

As I mentioned in January, this sounds concerning. Vampires are more tired than narcoleptics, both on the big and small screen. More, how brutal can a vampire show on a major family oriented network truly fare? Could it possibly incite fright? Seems doubtful.

What says you?
