NBC to air the failed Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane as a Halloween special

MOCKINGBIRD LANE, the reboot of THE MUNSTERS that NBC sunk $10 million into developing will not make it to series. But, NBC needs to recoup their investment somehow, which is why we will get to watch it on national television just in time for Halloween.

The show was developed by Bryan Fuller and director Bryan Singer who apparently had differing views on the direction the show should take. The first red flag would have been the choice to make all of the characters human, despite the original series featuring versions of Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolfman. Instead, MOCKINGBIRD LANE has Jerry O’Connell playing Herman Munster in human form alongside Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard.

NBC declined to comment on the Hollywood Reporter story regarding the airing of the pilot, but it looks like it will premiere on Friday, October 26th at 8pm EST. That is the last Friday before Halloween, so it is a perfect time to dump their investment and see if anything can be salvaged.

NBC is showing their first uptick in viewers in a very long time this season, so it is somewhat surprising that one of their biggest investments could have gotten this far along and be such an utter failure. Unless NBC is trying to see if viewers have any interest before greenlighting the show to series.

I had high hopes for the series. The talent involved alone would have made it at least a worthwhile time waster with the added benefit of seeing some cool Universal monsters again.

Will you be tuning in to see MOCKINGBIRD LANE?
