As we told you a few days ago, Disney’s sure-to-be-gigantic OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL recently nabbed itself a release date, choosing the MARCH 8, 2013 release date. It positioned itself right next to Neill Blomkamp’s mysterious sci-fi epic ELYSIUM, the other big film occupying that slot. Obviously that did not sit well with distributor Sony, as it has just moved up the release of the Blomkamp film.

ELYSIUM will now come out MARCH 1, 2013. At the moment, the rest of March ’13 is wide open, so there should be plenty of love to go around. And if anyone is wondering why early March is suddenly so popular, take a look at the opening weekends of ALICE IN WONDERLAND ($116 million), 300 ($70 million) and WATCHMEN ($55 million). There’s definitely bucks to be made in the weeks of early-Spring.

ELYSIUM stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster (allegedly), Wagner Moura, William Fichtner and Sharlto Copley. Its plot details are thin, although we know it’s set 100 years in the future and involves interaction with an alien race.
