There are several Blumhouse productions available for viewing through the Netflix streaming service, and soon there's going to be another one to add to your list, as Netflix has picked up the distribution rights to the Blumhouse, Gunpowder & Sky, and Divide/Conquer collaboration CAM.

A "technology-driven psychological thriller set in the world of webcam porn", CAM was directed by Daniel Goldhaber, who also crafted the story with Isabelle Link-Levy and screenwriter Isa Mazzei.

The film follows

Alice, an ambitious camgirl, who wakes up one day to discover she’s been replaced on her show with an exact replica of herself. As this copy begins to push the boundaries of Alice’s internet identity, the control that Alice has over her life, and the men in it, vanishes. While she struggles to regain what she’s lost, she slowly finds herself drawn back to her show and to the mysterious person who has taken her place.

Alice is played by Madeline Brewer, who you may know from her roles on The Handmaid's Tale, Hemlock Grove, or Orange Is the New Black. Her co-stars include Patch Darragh, Devin Druid, and Melora Walters.

Link-Levy, Adam Hendricks, John Lang, and Greg Gilreath produced the film. CAM marks Goldhaber's feature directorial debut, and it won the "best first feature" award at the Fantasia International Film Festival, with the "best screenplay" award going to Mazzei.

The popularity of webcam porn does offer filmmakers a relatively new world to delve into, and for the horror genre that has already resulted in a cool slasher flick (2014's GIRL HOUSE). CAM's doppelganger thrills sound intriguing. Netflix hasn't announced a release date for the film, but I'll be watching for it.
