Starring Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black), the first season of Netflix's Russian Doll followed a woman named Nadia on "her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City. She dies repeatedly, always restarting at the same moment at the party, as she tries to figure out what is happening to her." The series received rave reviews when it debuted back in February, so naturally, it's been announced that the series will be returning for a second season.

The renewal was announced during an interview with co-creator/star Natasha Lyonne and Netflix content VP Cindy Holland at Recode’s annual Code Conference. There's no word on when the second season will debut, only that it will consist of eight-episodes, much like the first season. Russian Doll creators Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland have said that they pitched the series as a three-season concept, but as for where the second season will take us, the trio haven't revealed too many details. "When initially pitched, Nadia was a presence throughout all three of them," Headland revealed to THR earlier this year. "But it was not in a very conventional way, if that makes sense. She was always a presence, as we knew Lyonne would always be the beating heart and soul of this show. Whether she was being haunted or she was haunting the narrative, she would be there."

Our own Alex Maidy was a big fan of Russian Doll, calling it "one of the most consistent and entertaining I have seen in the binge TV era" in his review of the series. "Some may not be as amused by the very specific sense of humor this series has, but if you like your comedy with a biting edge, graphic sexual references, and heaps of profanity, you will enjoy Russian Doll," said Maidy. "But if you came for the repeated death scenes or simply to unravel the mystery of why this is happening to Nadia, you will find that there is a lot more to this story thanks to Lyonne's pitch perfect performance and a unique style that Headland brings as director."
